On 24 June 1717, four established London Lodges came together at the Goose and Gridiron Tavern in St Paul’s Churchyard, London. Thereupon, our Grand Lodge, the first in the world, was formed with Anthony Sayer as its Grand Master. Thus the United Grand Lodge of England was 300 years old in 2017
The Tercentenary provided a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase what Freemasonry can offer society, celebrate our achievements and dispel some of the lingering myths surrounding the fraternity.
The Provincial Grand Lodge of Somerset, as well as UGLE, arranged numerous events to mark the Tercentenary and lodges and Masonic Centres in Somerset took the opportunity to arrange local events for their members and the general public.
