Brother Ross Batten could never have imagined that he would have the honour to be initiated AND raised by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Somerset. However, in March 2017 during the annual Provincial Team Visit to Somersetshire 2925 in London, APGM Ben Batley carried out the Ceremony of Initiation and just over a year later in March 2018 APGM Barry McCormack and members of the Provincial team, raised him to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. Taking active office during the Ceremony were the Provincial Senior Warden, David Ware, Junior Warden Val Cooke, Chaplain,. Keith Fisher, Director of Ceremonies Chris Marchmont, Senior Deacon Adrian Robson, Junior Deacon, Richard Kilburn, Inner Guard Ian Moore and Tyler Collin Snook. The Provincial Grand Master, Stuart Hadler told Compass Magazine “it’s become something a tradition for us to visit Somersetshire Lodge and it’s a wonderful outing for the team, many of whom were coming to the end of their year of office.” Worshipful Master, Anthony (Tony) Guthrie said he was delighted that over 30 Brethren from Somerset were able to support the PGM and make the journey to London. The Provincial Choir were in attendance accompanied by the Provincial Organist Martin Emslie which really made the Ceremony, held in the Grand Temple of Mark Masons Hall in St, James an even more memorable occasion.
